Perched near the top of Mount Washington, 1200 Olancha is a beautifully preserved and carefully updated 1958 Mid-Century Modern artist’s retreat. With a balcony made for Joni and a creative studio made for Lana, this house channels the free-spirited energy of LA’s legendary music and art scenes, along with all the comforts and upgrades of a thoughtful modern renovation. Just over 2, 000 square feet of effortlessly cool California living unfolds beneath soaring vaulted ceilings, skylights and clerestory windows. Walls of glass along the living room, dining room and kitchen frame sweeping views of the surrounding hills, mountains and trees. With four bedrooms and three beautifully updated bathrooms, the home has room to spread out, entertain, and get creative. The primary bedroom wakes up in nature to sweeping mountain vistas and nods off to twinkling lights in the surrounding hills, while two additional bedrooms on the entrance level offer space for family, guests, and a home office. Each of the three bathrooms has been given a chic refresh, with thoughtful design details throughout, including Unlacquered Brass fixtures by Watermark, Japanese tile, and a Heather Levine light fixture in the guest bath that is as much a piece of art as a source of light. Downstairs, the spacious lower level with its ensuite bath, kitchenette, and private entrance offers versatility as a welcoming retreat for visitors, a separate fourth bedroom, or a grand creative studio. Outside, the downstairs patio and fire pit await for dinners under the trees. Two sizable decks crown each level, overlooking the foothills and adding another 600 sq ft of covered living space. Beyond its undeniable good looks, the home has all the right upgrades and features: Newer Roof, Fully Owned Solar (2020), 200-Amp Electrical Panel, EV Charger, Updated Plumbing and Electrical, Skylights throughout, fresh interior and exterior paint, and a stunning fireplace for cozy evenings above the world. The location can’t be beat; set on a nicely flat and traversable loop of Mt Washington, and boasting a truly rare Mount Washington luxury: a proper two-car attached garage with direct, stair-free entry into the home. Wrapped in nature and framed by magnificent half-century-old cacti, it feels like a private nature preserve, yet sits just minutes from neighborhood favorites Obet & Del’s, Lumen Coffee, Dunsmoor, Bub & Grandma’s, Wife & the Somm, Joy, and Villa’s Tacos.
